SML Commit
Notary proves the money moved. Commit proves the action was allowed to move it.
The loop already refused once
2026-10-03, a buyer paid $0.001 USDC and posted an intended effect with a stale atlas quote. The check returned Refuse / STALE_QUOTE_EFFECT_CHANGED. The action did not settle. The action did not reverse.
Public decision: squeezeos-api.onrender.com/v1/commit/e989264b2158f83a
That refusal is the product. Everything below describes how it works.
SML Commit is ScriptMasterLabs' pre-commit authorization check for the x402 agent economy. Before an agent acts, it posts the intended effect — action, target system, owner, cap, evidence — to POST /v1/commit and receives one of four outcomes: Allow, Hold, Refuse, or Escalate, plus a public decision URL. One decision costs 0.001 USDC on Base mainnet (eip155:8453). Without the check, Notary is only proof of payment. Without Notary, the check is only a permission slip. Together they are the commit.
How it works
- Agent posts the intent. Action, target system, owner, cap, evidence — the full intended effect, before anything moves.
POST /v1/commit, $0.001 USDC via x402. - SML decides. The effect is checked against the atlas: is it registered, is the owner right, is the cap under the limit, is the quote fresh, is there evidence? Allow, Hold, Refuse, or Escalate — written to a public decision URL.
- Notary binds it. When the settlement happens, SML Notary binds the decision to the transaction. One public URL, two facts: this action was authorized, and this tx carried it out.
The four outcomes
Allow — effect registered, owner matches, cap under the atlas limit, evidence present. Hold — registered but thin evidence or near the cap; confirm before settling. Refuse — unknown effect, stale quote, cap exceeded, or a refund with no receipt. A missing or stale commit is a hard Refuse, not a ticket. Escalate — owner mismatch or anything needing a human.
Price
$0.001 USDC per decision
Paid when someone else asks “was this action allowed?” No subscription. MCP only reads — agents that speak MCP discover the effect list and read the live terms; agents that speak HTTP call the route. One check, two doors.
Refunds
Refund shops return cents after the fact. SML Commit refuses the action unless the receipt exists: a refund Allow requires the transaction hash or a Notary URL, and it must sit under the atlas cap. No receipt, the action is not real.
What it isn't
Not an inbox. Not an escrow. Not an arbiter. No custody, no partner API, no new protocol, no dashboard. One paid route on the existing SqueezeOS rail: the check before the settlement.
Status
Live with one refusal on record. POST /v1/commit is returning 402 challenges on the SqueezeOS rail now. Free readers: GET /v1/commit/effects (the atlas), GET /v1/commit/terms (the live terms), GET /v1/commit/<id> (any public decision). Pairs with SML Notary, live since 2026-10-03.
